Are You a Donor?
written by motodisiac

We all know that motorcycling is dangerous. Accepting that there is a possibility of crashing is easy. I’m ready to go down every second of my ride, it would upset me but not surprize me. How about dying in a crash? I refuse to even think about it. I’m in this state of denial when one thinks: “it will never happen to me”. However, deep inside me I know there is always a possibility not to make it home one day. Scary, this thought often gives me goose bumps.
Recently I noticed that a lot of people have little red dot on their driver’s license meaning they are donors. In case anything bad happened to them, their organs will be used to save someone’s life. Amazing. Unfortunately I can’t even bear the thought of registring myself, it would mean that I officially admit that I could die in an accident one day. I’m in denial.

Sideout, I’m still waiting for your opinion on this grim subject

I live in N Wales, UK and here we have a voluntary donor scheme register within the National Health Service. However within the biker fraternity we have a scheme whereby one can obtain, gratis, helmet stickers to the affect that the wearer is on the register and the organs can be harvested (quaint term that isn’t it?) My wife and I have these stickers on our motorcycle helmets and our horse riding hats as both are equally dangerous pursuits (ask any paramedic in Snowdonia). However, to the point in question…yes we know we are vulnerable and can “go down” easily at any time but this alters nothing, my philosophy is that when your number’s up that’s it, take every precaution possible but when the Grim Reaper calls don’t be selfish, let someone benefit from you and yours misfortune. I used to live in Fla and there my drivers licence was endorsed as “organ donor”. Regards, Al Chivers, Aprilia Futura.

I also believe in “when your nuber is up” theory however I still find it hard to accept the fact that that number could come up any moment.
