California beach camping
written by motodisiac
While I love going on a camping trips, usually it involves hours of driving and by the time the “rest” is over I’m already worn out. Last Sunday we tried something entirely different, camping at the nearby beach north of Malibu, CA.

It’s nice to be somewhere in less than one hour, and this trip wasn’t an exception. After a short drive on PCH, we arrived at Sycamore Beach campground. It was already getting dark and I expected some difficulties in setting up the camp. On the contrary it was a breeze. We paid $15 at the entrance and very nice US parks worker recommended that we park at the end of the campground because we wanted more secluded spot. Her suggestion was spot on, there was only one RV nearby and they were already getting ready to sleep. With this one of my stereotypes was broken, it turns out staying at the campground could be very serene even if you’re 30 miles from concrete jungle. After pitching the tent we started a fire and the rest of the evening was spent listening to the waves with a bottle of cold one constantly cooling my hand.
So there could be camping without long exhausting drives, hours of preparation and hundreds of dollars spent on supplies. I will do this more often now, it beats sitting in front of the tube any time. I would like to cancel my Netflix subscription NOW.

So refreshing to hear of your great local camping experience. I’m in NorCal near the shore, and a quick getaway to camp at the beach down the street is a good enough “getaway”.
