Has he lost it?

This post would be very closely related to one of my previous entries, Maxed Out. This is real life situation and should not be attempted by anyone.
Of of my best friends is madly in love. Great. However this is very troubled relatioship. They often break up just to get back together few days or even hours later. Again nothing special and very typical for humans. Yesterday, out of the blue, he calls me and lets me know that his bike is for sale. Why? Because ge wants to propose and needs cash for the wedding ring ( did I mention they broke up a day before?)

Well, I respect your decision to pull the plug and get married (again). It’s understandable that the lady of your dreams needs the assurance of your commitment. However, if you need to sell your bike just to buy a ring you clearly cannot afford the latter. I mean, just go to Sears and pick one up, it will make her just as happy. I don’t think she will care whether it’s $400 or $4000. And I’m not saying this because I’m afraid to lose my riding buddy, I know that you will rebound and buy another one sooner or later. I just want to point out that it is foolish to spend money on something that will put you in debt. Please reconsider.

I was engaged 3 years ago. Bought a ring under $1000, even though I had enough money in the bank to spend 10 times more. 4 months later my relationship fell apart and we broke up. I was happy I did not spend that 10 grand.
