You probably remember how it started. Back in April the seed had been planted. Motodisiac and I even went to take a peek at it and visually compared it with the Super Duke. Things did not stop there. I went out and demo-ed the Hyper. It was awesome. However due to the fact that they just came out there isn’t a good deal to be found on one of those. Brand new bikes are really expensive. And any owner of a used Hypermotard thinks that he will be able to sell for what he bought it. Which of course is not true. Yet the good deal is nowhere to be found.

With all of that said the Hypermotard hysteria has been put on hold. Possibly till today. At least for me.

I was riding back from the office. Freeway congested as usual. I am going relatively fast catching up with occasional cruisers and a few slower sport bike riders. Halfway through my commute I see a bike rapidly approaching me from behind. I scoot over to the left to let him pass. A thank you wave while the bike zooms by. It is red, it looks like a bird of prey, it’s got a super moto look, it’s got dual exhausts under the seat. It is a Hypermotard! The Hypo rider accelerated. I began the chase.

Obviously I could not catch up with him due to multiple reasons. First of all Hypermotard is much lighter than my Futura. Secondly - I want to live. The guy was going insanely fast. And while I do not condone such behavior while splitting lanes in traffic I will however say this. The rider was having SO MUCH FUN on the Hypo. Not once did he hit the brakes. He was just weaving around cars and seemed to have tremendous amount of fun doing so. The side mirrors were folded creating a smaller footprint for the splitting Hypermotard. Who needs mirrors when you are going that fast. The Hypermotard vanished in less than 5 minutes. I hope the rider reached his destination safe and sound. Lucky Hypermotard riding bastard!

In any case I am back home writing this post and … searching craigslist for a good deal on a Hypermotard. Will I buy one if a good deal comes along? Will I have the guts to do that?
