You should try as much as possible to stay out of other drivers' blind spots. Many drivers don't turn their head before making a maneuver. Tractor-trailers are the worst. Any time I pass one I try to get out of the spot next to it as fast as possible. You probably know this already, but just in case. Driving my R6 after 12 years without a bike for a week and the best defense against blind drivers is the speed and if I have the feeling that he doesn't see me to rev the engine for a moment to 14k or so. Tends to wake people up. Doesn't even bother to use the horn, it get's ignored anyway... nice blog btw and you just cost me a couple of hours sleep, while I was reading it for quite a while :) I know your pain.
